How much do you charge?

£40.00 for the first hour and £25.00 per hour after that. Half hours are charged at £15.00.

Is there a call-out charge?

There is no call-out charge but the first hour costs £40.00.

Is there a minimum Charge?

Yes the minimum charge is £40.00

How do I pay?

Payment is on completion by cash or cheque.

How do I know how much a job will cost?

We will give you a good idea over the phone how long a job will take. Once we have arrived and evaluated the job and the work looks like it may take longer, then we will re-evaluate and give you the choice of going ahead or not. If you do not wish to proceed you will not be charged.

For larger jobs, we will survey the work required and then submit an estimate at no cost to the customer.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we are covered by £1m public liability Insurance.

What areas do you cover?

We are based in London, N8 and cover a five-mile radius.

Do you carry out commercial work?

Yes. We do work for local businesses, pubs, landlords and estate agents. Our commercial clients are invoiced and pay within 30 days.

Do you deal with emergencies?

Sorry, no. We keep regular business hours 9-6, Monday to Friday. Evening and weekend work can be undertaken by arrangement and according to availability. (See links page)

Do you work with gas?

Sorry, no. We are "handymen" and not "Corgi" registered (Corgi registration is required by law to carry out any work involving gas).

Do you carry out electrical work?

New regulations since January 2005 require that any work carried out in bathrooms or kitchens be certified by an NIC/EIC or equivalent qualified electrician. Therefore, we do not undertake new electrical work in these areas. However, we are able to carry out replacement of exisiting appliances.

Why would I hire Local Hero for the day?

Many people decide that it makes great sense to hire Local Hero for a day to get all of those niggling jobs out of the way in one go. Others hire Local Hero after moving in to a new home to help with essential jobs. Some hire us after deciding to sell their property and realising that for a small cost they can enhance the value of their property.

Can I supply my own materials?

Yes, by all means, you can supply your own materials. Some people use us as a labour only service . However, we do supply materials and the cost for these is included in your estimate, unless otherwise stated. We also carry a large stock of fixtures and fittings so that we do not waste time and thus save you money.

Are there jobs you can't tackle?

Yes. There are many jobs that fall outside our abilities as Handymen. We will be the first people to tell you if we feel that a job is not for us. Customer relations are of prime importance to us and if we can't do the job we shall try to point you in the direction of someone who can.

Do you do a same day service?

Generally speaking, most of the work we do is booked in advance. We usually are able to carry out the work within a couple of days or within the week. However, depending on the work involved, it may be possible to carry out the job on the same day.

We will give you a time so you don't have to waste your day waiting. Alternatively, we can collect and return keys (if they are within our 5 mile radius) for a fee of £15.00.

Are you reliable?

We are a local business whose trade is mostly by recommendation and word-of-mouth. Customer goodwill is vital to our survival. We try to be on time, all the time, and if we are running late we will call you to let you know of any delays.
